The Virginia sparkling wine industry is rapidly growing, we are seeing a handful of excellent wines being produced right here. Here are the 10 best sparkling wines that are made in Virginia:

  1. Loving Cup Vineyard & Winery 2021 Sparkling White, Pétillant Naturel: Virginia's first certified-organic sparkling wine. Made 100% on-site from their own grapes. Bone dry and fruity. In Pétillant Naturel (Pét-Nat) production, bubbles from primary fermentation are captured in the bottle, resulting in light, fizzy, fruity wines. This is in contrast to bubbles from secondary fermentation (Champagne) or forced carbonation (soda).

  2. Mount Ida Reserve: - 2018 Over The Moon Sparkling Soft, floral, and creamy, our 2018 Over the Moon shows off flavors of citrus zest, biscuity richness, and minerality.

  3. Thibaut-Janisson Blanc de Chardonnay NV: 100% Chardonnay grape. Elegant and suave, with good minerality. Subtle notes of apple, white peach with hints of hazelnuts. Creamy mouthfeel , fine bead, clean and zesty finish.

  4. Afton Mountain Vineyards Bollicine 19’: The Bollicine dry sparkling wine is a blend of 30% Pinot Noir and 70% Chardonnay. A classic combination of yeasty toast notes with bright fresh apple. Aged in their cave for almost 2 years in the bottle, hand-riddled and made in the traditional method champenoise.

  5. Early Mountain Vineyards EMV BRUT SPARKLING NV: Fresh, crisp, and new. This Brut Sparkling wine is make in the traditional method, aging 24 months in-bottle and giving some fantastic notes of toast and biscuits. With flavors of green apple, white peach, and hazelnut. 

  6. King Family Vineyards Brut 2019: This dry sparkling wine, produced in the traditional method from 100% Chardonnay, is bright and crisp. On the nose and the palate, the wine is full of rich green apple notes and light toast. Aged 7 months in oak barrels, and spends 2 years aging sur lees in the bottle.

  7. Trump Winery 2017 Sparkling Blanc de Blanc: made with 100% estate-grown Chardonnay. Aged for a minimum of 36 months on lees. Bright green apple and fresh citrus notes with layers of brioche and yeast complexity. An excellent balance of acidity, creamy mousse, and textures that persist with a long and elegant finish.

  9. Michael Shaps Methode Sparkling 2018 - From Michael Shaps Wineworks: This particular vintage is 100% Riesling, and was barrel fermented in older French oak. Aromas of citrus and spice give way to a tartness on the palate with smooth, delicate notes of vanilla and toast. Pairs well with most foods, but especially brie and strawberries

  10. Scintilla Non Vintage - From Veritas Vineyards Afton, VA: Scintilla is a brut sparkling wine made in the traditional method that is used in Champagne. These grapes are harvested at the perfect time to preserve the clean acidic character you find in the finished wine. The aroma and flavors are extremely fresh and crisp reminiscent of acidic fruits such as lemon, green apple and pear, accented by a touch of yeast and toasted brioche
