Designing spaces to help you live better with 2 Navy Lane

Home should be a place that is worth investing in - it should be “your favorite place to be” as Stacey Dobrovolny, owner and designer at 2 Navy Lane, would say. Over here at Virginia Home & Lifestyle, home defines a big part of our lifestyle and Stacey is the queen of designing beautiful spaces around one’s lifestyle. Our homes should express who we are, our space should inspire us, give us comfort, a place to rest and a place to recharge… a place that helps us live better! That is Stacey’s goal with her designs.

Stacey comes with a tremendous resume, but it’s the way she helps people define their space that really shines. And don’t take our word for it, here are some snippets from her reviews:

“Whenever I see my newly designed space, I feel at home.”

“She pushes you to explore ideas that may be out of your comfort zone, but that lead to a beautiful home that you are excited about, comfortable in, and that receives a myriad of compliments.”

“She was great at tailoring her approach to help us make decisions, by creating storyboards/mock ups of the rooms.

Now, one thing we love doing over here at Virginia Home & Lifestyle are fun interviews to get to know the human behind the business! Because along with the beautiful state of Virginia, it is the beautiful people that make it so special. Stacey is so much fun, and we promise that you’ll be dying to get to know more about her after our interview:

Meet Stacey Dobrovolny

Q: What's your favorite color to design with these days?

A. I love pops of fushcia and magenta.  For overall colors, I'm still loving the dark, rich blues and taupes to make that transition back to the browns from the gray we are leaning away from more and more.  I also love a grayish lavender...perfection!

Q. What 2023 design trends are you excited about?

A. Warmer toned woods in furniture but our wood/LVP floors are getting lighter.  Wallcovering!

Q. Favorite podcasts these days? (I saw you are a podcast junkie like me!)

A. Yes!  I LOVE podcasts.  My favorite one is a Well Designed Business.  I also love Get Your Hopes up by Christy Wright, Straight Talk with Amber DeLaGarza, Profit is a Choice with Michelle Williams, The Only Girl on the Jobsite, Wingnut Social, Motivation Daily and Millionaire Habits.  I guess I'm more of a podcast junkie than I thought I was, because that is not even all the ones I listen to :) LOL

Q. Which sitcom has your favorite interior design set?

A.I don't watch much tv, so I may have to reach hard on this one but I love the property that Kate lives in on Firefly Lane but the interior of Tully's penthouse apartment.  And if there is a show I'm missing with a sleek beach view...that would be my all time favorite!

Q. If your design style was a celebrity, who would it be? and why?

A. I'm not great with actors/actresses, since I don't watch a ton of tv/movies.  But if I had to put a celebrity with my design style, I would have to say it would be Jennifer Aniston.  My designs are down to earth and a liveable luxury.  But they can be classy, sassy or just plain fun.  I think Jennifer encompasses all of those traits, just as my interior designs can too.

Q. Tell us about your most interesting design job you were commissioned to do!

A. Very early in my design career, I worked with a team of Designers who helped design a very large, well known hotel in Las Vegas, NV.  We took that hotel from the ground up in 14 months.  It was fun, exhausting and insane...but what a great ride!

Q. What inspires your creative side when it comes to design?

A. I am really inspired by outdoor elements that make us feel relaxed and at home (ie: water, trees, etc) but also love something totally bold and elegant.  I can definitely design in any style and love the outcome.

Q. What are some of your favorite design pieces?

A. Architecturally, I love having fun with beautiful moldings and a great built-in.  In the furniture world, I love a great lounge chair that you cannot even tell that it swivels and/or glides. You sit in it and immediately fall in love because the comfort is something you cannot explain.

Q. What design mistakes do you see a lot in homes?

A. A 4" backsplash that matches their countertops and then a tile backsplash above that.

Q. Words of wisdom (whatever inspirational line you want to give here whether about life, design or business).

A. I don't believe much in luck but I do believe in preparing yourself to become lucky.  What I mean by this is to work tirelessly to fulfill those dreams and goals that you have and set yourself up for success.  And when that right thing comes along, whatever it is, you can take full advantage of that to propel you towards (and beyond) that measure of success.  Whatever that is for you.  I hope that makes sense :)
